Wow has my life changed. I used to be a 8:15 to 5:00 elbow deep in mortgage paperwork, with an email overflowing with requests, complaints, and demands. Not exactly where I'd thought I'd be after busting my behind and literally losing my eye site reading book after book to get my English lit degree. Don't get me wrong I am very grateful for the opportunities I was awarded and the many people I met and befriended, and I can't forget the countless amount of belly laughs that rang throughout that enormous building.
Since I have had my life's blessing. People always say there's nothing like a mothers love, but wow I never knew what that really meant. I am so grateful that my husband has allowed me to stay home and watch our son grow. It amazes me how fast he grows, how fast he learns. He's two, and verbally requests, complains, and demands things from me...but I love it. Wouldn't change my life for the world!
Blessed!

Hearing aides and toilets
My grandma lost hearing in her right ear in her twenties. My whole life I have known to speak toward her "good" ear. Just recently I noticed that her hearing has become a bit worse. At lunch one afternoon I suggested her going to the doctor to see if there is anything they could do. She is a stubborn lady; she proceeded to tell me she has been before and she doesn't want to wear "big ole" hearing aides in both ears. She failed to mention the last time she went was over 15 years ago.
I went on to suggest that technology is amazing & has probably progressed since the last time she went. She pretty much ignored me, or who knows maybe she didn't hear me (lol).
Our conversation then turned to potty training. She told me how she potty trained my uncle 50 years ago. She would wake him up in the morning and have him pee in an empty coffee can. She suggested I do this with my son.
Technology!! I said, "Grandma, you wouldn't believe technology these days, they actually have replicas of toilets the size of coffee cans to potty train." Point taken, she's going to the doctor to see if there is anything to do for her hearing.
Love her.
Subtlety.
I knew she heard me.

My Birthday card...
So as most of you know my grandma is one of the most influential people in my life. I remember and relish in her stories and memories. I listen to what she says because I know she comes from a place of experience. Her realm of wisdom is enormous. Her sense of humor is unique. Her wit is remarkably quick especially for her age.
So I get my birthday card in the mail. On my actual birthday... of course she mails it right on time. I can't wait to open it. I don't expect money or gift cards. She's an older lady on social security (I send her money and gift cards on her birthday). I can't wait to open it... because I can't wait to read what she wrote. I'm expecting some true wisdom... probably something she learned or realized when she turned 31.
The front of the car has a sunflower on it with a plaid background and has the words "A Special Birthday Wish" printed. The inside is pre-printed... "With very warmest wishes for a Happy Birthday". Ok here it comes... her words "Love Grandma".
What? Love Grandma? That's it? Are you kidding me? It was awesome. Maybe I needed to read between the lines. Maybe she was telling me to expect the unexpected. Maybe she was telling me 31 is just another number don't trip off it. Or maybe she was telling me something more important... something simple... that she LOVES me.
It was such a small significant moment. She's always teaching or showing me something.
I love her!

Random
My grandma learned to drive when she was 30. She drives with both feet. It's pretty awesome! :)
Tip:
Rolly moles: That's what I call them. They are those raised tiny little freckle moles (that hang off the skin). My grandmas solution for these is to tie a piece of string tightly around them and eventually they will shrivel up and fall off. Who needs a doctor? Right?
